Studying Abroad
Recognition of studies
Campus Europae takes the recognition of studies abroad very seriously, and this is an issue of paramount importance for the members of the network: mobile students must not be exposed to any complications with regard to the recognition of ECTS credits earned abroad that would lead to the prolongation of their studies. To this end, Campus Europae aims at establishing ex-ante recognition in ways that do not lead to the standardization of academic curricula. Therefore, CE revolves largely around intensive academic cooperation between interested professors, who convene on a regular basis in the so called Subject Committees. It is in the Subject Committees that academic cooperation amongst Campus Europae member universities is agreed and the primary task of these groups is to look into ways of articulating the curricula of the participating universities with a view to establishing broad mobility pathways. The practical outcome of this effort is Europe’s largest database of course equivalences, which is available at matrices.campuseuropae.org.
The database assists mobile students
in choosing course units offered at other universities within the
network which are equivalent to the course units at their home
university. This is especially useful when preparing individual
“learning agreements”. The database provides reassurance on
academic compatibility even in cases where translated course
descriptions and learning outcomes are not readily available
elsewhere. The recognition matrices are kept up to date
thanks to periodical reviews and each committee continues to meet
even after the end of the development phase to ensure that the
implementation of the study programme is in accordance with the
highest quality assurance standards.
